Kode9 - You Don’t Wash (Martyn Remix)

Download: Kode9 - You Don’t Wash (Martyn Remix)

Martyn and Kode 9 are both big in my book for being two of the most unique and diverse producers out there. Today LA times posted up a great interview with Kode 9 which features this free remix track by Martyn and is well worth a read. The track is on quite a funky house sort of vibe but has a nice swing to it for sure. Watch out for Dj Kicks by Kode 9 coming soon, enjoy!

James Blake - CMYK

Ready for the next drop by rising producer James Blake. CYMK EP is due for release 31st May 2010 through R&S Records.

Anyone familiar with his style will know how its hard to pin him to a genre and with this release as no exception, it truly proves that this guy is something else. Coming straight out of London at the age of 21, currently studying contemporary music, filling the gap on Mount Kimbie’s live proformance [video below] and chopping his own vocals up; I’ll be keeping my eye to the ground for anything else by James Blake.

Go fill up on his back catalogue and keep an eye out for releases under his Harmonimix alias.

TOKiMONSTA - You Don’t Need Pepto, You Need Some Beats, Brainfeeder mix

I say TOKiMONSTA, you think?? Let’s try and paint a picture.

Jennifer Lee aka TOKiMONSTA comes straight out of the very hyped LA scene tight with FlyLo and his Brainfeeder crew. She’s Korean-American, born and raised in Torrance, CA in Los Angeles County and got into making beats at college, with a dab hand in piano, clarinet, drums and guitar. With her unoffical title of “First Lady of Brainfeeder” earned from this mix featured above, back in May 2009.

“Flying Lotus called me that on the BF site and I find it really nuts how that title has stuck ever since. As far as how I hooked up with them, I guess it was just the course of nature bringing like-minded people together. We all knew each other before I was even a part of the crew–the LA beat scene is an intimate community. I was actually taken by surprise when Flylo asked if I wanted to do something with BF because I never once bugged him to put me on or anything. All in all, I’m very thankful for that moment and everyone who has been supportive of me since.”

With huge support coming fresh of the back of her “Cosmic Intoxication EP” release, now available via Bleep, here’s a few tasters of her style.

2. of or pertaining to mystics or mysticism: mystical writings.
3. spiritually symbolic.
4. Rare. obscure in meaning; mysterious.

The Zomby vibe purely is magic, I love how it entrancingly deep his tracks are and how every single one alters my perception of him. Even the chase to find new tracks is a game in itself; wither they’re appearing on his Soundcloud, mySpace, official releases or he’s leaking them himself… it’s always a fun game with a great prize when I hear something new of his.

Such A Feelin’ (sunset mix) by ZOMBY ®

It Was All A Dream by ZOMBY ®

Already hooked, the best insight you’ll probably get is in his recent Fader Magazine interview and here’s a few of my personal favourites bits. Well worth a read.

“Nowadays I prefer to write music. But I do enjoy it if I get to play a certain type of set. Like a solid jungle set or a French house set. But you know what, the problem is too much choice really. I could play anything from anywhere and what’s confining is the setting. Like the expectation at the moment is frequency perversion. So my tunes have to have a stupid amount of bass to boost the subs on the system and that’s a good night for people. I’m stood there thinking, fuck man, ‘A Forest’ by The Cure would go down well now. But yeah, I should probably change this answer if I ever want to get a gig again.”

“Q: Private people, who don’t necessarily play the promo game, like yourself, Burial, Animal Collective, make some of the most adventurous music around at the moment. Why do you think that is?

A: Because of decisions made before any music is made. It’s about personality. Why do you do this and what do you want from it? How does it make you feel? Two years ago I wouldn’t play anyone my songs. I still get embarrassed when I hear them on the radio. It’s just a personal thing. I want my music to be amazing. I want to be Mozart.”

I’m sure you’re already enjoying Zomby and if you’re not, I’m sure it won’t affect anything.
